QUESTION POSED ON: 22 December 2006
I am currently running AOL 9.0 SE and it keeps telling me that I have multiple firewalls installed and recommends uninstalling Norton Internet Worm Protection. I did not think I had any Norton Software installed on my system. How can I remove this error?

EXPERT RESPONSE
Are you running the Windows Firewall? Odds are you are. You can disable the Windows Firewall (unless you have a compelling reason to use it) via the Windows Security Center (Run/Settings/Control Panel/Security Center) since AOL 9.0 SE has its own personal firewall software (McAfee Personal Firewall Express) built right in. To suppress those messages, try disabling firewall notification messages from Security Center as follows:

  1. Click Start and Run
  2. Enter wscui.cpl and click OK
  3. In the Resources area on the left side, click "Change the way Security Center alerts me "
  4. Click the firewall checkbox to clear that option.
  5. Click OK
